Overview

In most cases, second person is best. When referring to OMH, use the first-person pronoun (we, us, our). Use the second person (you, your) to refer to patients, and other audiences we’re addressing

When referring to OMH, use the first-person pronoun (we, us, our). Use the second person (you, your) to refer to patients, and other audiences we’re addressing.

Example:

Use “we” and “you” for a conversational tone

They, their

We use “they” and “their” as gender-neutral pronouns. Don’t use “he or she” and “his or her.” The New Fowler’s Modern English Language, third edition, and Garner’s Modern American Usage, third edition, support this approach.
